Well, it happened again! The Old Mutual Two Ocean’s Half Marathon Entries opened yesterday, and much like last year, all 16,000 entries sold out within just 3 hours. The popularity of the event is greater than ever before, and despite waiting patiently in the queue from 10am when entries opened, many runners were unable to get their hands on what has now become a golden ticket.

At 21km, the Two Oceans Half Marathon is much more appealing (and doable) than the Ultra Marathon at 56km, and as such, entries for this particular event literally fly off the shelves, and if you are not fast, extremely fast, you are most definitely last when it comes to getting your spot on the World’s Most Beautiful Marathon.
An amazing event that attracts thousands of runners from across the globe, the Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon takes place in Cape Town each Easter Weekend, and while there are 27,000 places available in total (11,000 Ultra Marathon and 16,000 Half Marathon), most of them get snapped up within just a few hours of release.
If you are thinking about heading to Cape Town to run the 2 Oceans Half Marathon in 2016, but haven’t secured your entry yet, you have just 3 remaining options:
- Run the Two Ocean’s Ultra Marathon (all 56kms of it!)
- Run Cape Town’s most popular marathon for Charity
- Book a Travel Package that Includes Guaranteed Entry (internationals only)
If you decide to go for option one, you will be pleased to know that there are still 5,653 places available on the Two Oceans Ultra Marathon (according to the official website), and so you have plenty of time to secure your spot. However, they usually sell out early in the New Year, so don’t leave it too late!
Your next option is to run Cape Town’s most popular marathon for charity in 2016. Charity entries will be loaded onto the official OMTOM website in the coming days, so keep your eyes open and contact your favourite charity as soon as entries are released. Charity entries cost a little more than regular entries, but you’ll be able to enjoy your run even more, knowing that you are doing it for a very worthy cause.
Finally, it you are an international traveller looking for guaranteed entry into the Two Ocean’s Half Marathon 2016, consider booking one of the fantastic travel packages available from selected tour operators. Including everything from flights and accommodation to entry into the race, this is the stress free way to travel to Cape Town for South Africa’s most spectacular running event.
